Family Engagement

Nicola Dobbs Family Engagement & Learning Officer for Willowtown School.

I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead.  My purpose in the school is to foster positive family engagement and my door will be open to every parent/carer, I am based in the side office next to the main reception and you're very welcome to come along and meet up with me.

I will be available every morning from 8am until the end of the school day. If you need advice or any information we can arrange for you to come into my office for a chat or if you would prefer I will happily complete home visits.

Willowtown School sees parents/carers as key partners in the improvement of the school. My role is to involve and engage effectively with parents/carers in order to understand any barriers to involvement in your children’s learning.

My journey so far

I have been delivering a successful after school club called Young Ambassadors on a Wednesday for year 5 & 6 supporting pupils to know their rights under the UNCRC (The United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child). We have 2 Super Ambassadors that were voted in by their peers and it is their job to meet up with me on a Friday afternoon and tweet the Children’s Commissioner Sally Holland on the missions we have been completing in school. Our first mission was to tackle BULLYING the young ambassadors delivered an assembly to the school and their rights to be kept safe Article 19 you should not be harmed and should be looked after and kept safe. We have created a board for pupils and parents to see our missions.

I also deliver SAP (Student Assistant Programme) sessions for young people to overcome barriers to self-esteem and confidence.

I have been working with many families delivering family cooking workshops (Cooking 4 Life) which will enable for you to be involved in your children’s education, and a opportunity to gain more skills.

Coffee Mornings on Friday's– come along and have a friendly chat, share your ideas or any concerns; or enroll on to a parent support group.

I have been working very closely with Families First, we have an advisor called Nadette who is based in the school every other Wednesday afternoon. I arrange meetings with parents in need and can contact her on a regular basis for information and continued support for parents/carers.

SHEP - (Holiday Club)
